Fathoming Fairisle

Saturday 23rd February 2019

10am - 4pm

Just 2 places left!

Colour is one of the most exciting elements of knitting designs, yet for many knitters it can also seem to be one of the most daunting. This workshop aims to demystify the basics of how colour ‘works’ and will show you the skills needed to create beautiful Fairisle stranded knitting.

This technique has enduring traditional appeal, but is also prominent in contemporary knit design. This workshop will provide you with a thorough introduction to Fairisle knitting and help you feel more confident to tackle Fairisle projects, whether on straight needles or in the round.

This workshop is suitable for all levels of knitters who can knit and purl, and can follow a basic pattern.

On the day we’ll cover:

  • What is Fairisle?

  • Materials and tools needed.

  • Knitting flat in rows and in the round

  • Using charts

  • Stranding and weaving

    • Single handed
    • Stranding with both hands

Provided for you:

  •  Full tuition
  • Yarns for practising the techniques on the day
  • a workshop pack containing training materials
  • a complementary pattern for a fairisle project designed by Donna.

Light refreshments are also provided. A meal and any additional snacks can be purchased from

the high street, or you may prefer to bring your own packed lunch.
