Top Down Socks

Saturday 14th September

10am - 4pm

A great introduction to sock knitting - we’ll be learning how to knit a traditional sock from the top down using double pointed needles. Suitable for knitters who can confidently knit and purl.

Some people might question why you would spend time knitting socks when you can buy them so cheaply ready made. Here are a few very good reasons why you might.

Hand knitted socks are incredibly comfortable to wear, especially as you can adjust the size to fit the wearer perfectly. They are a relatively quick and portable project too, and are relatively inexpensive as they don’t use a lot of yarn, and there is a huge array of gorgeous sock yarns available nowadays.

This workshop provides a great introduction to sock knitting - we’ll be learning how to knit a simple sock from the top down using double pointed needles.

This workshop is suitable for all levels of knitters who can knit and purl, and can follow a basic pattern.

On the day we’ll cover:

  • The anatomy of a sock

  • adjusting the foot length to fit

  • A stretchy cast on for the cuff

  • Knitting in the round with DoublePointed Needles (DPNs)

  • Turning a heel

  • Kitchener Stitch to finish the toe

Provided for you:

  • Full tuition
  • Yarns for practising the techniques on the day
  • a workshop pack containing training materials
  • a complementary pattern for a sock project?

Light refreshments are also provided. A meal and any additional snacks can be purchased from the high street, or you may prefer to bring your own packed lunch.
